At around 6:45pm, on Wednesday, May 28, police received a report via Hexham Hospital of a concern for the welfare of one of their patients.
The man, aged in his 80s, was found by a member of the public having sustained serious injuries, in the Adderlane Road area of Prudhoe on Sunday, May 25, shortly after 10:15am.
Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries where he remains in a critical condition.
An investigation has been launched by Northumbria Police to establish the full circumstances surrounding the report – with the cause of the man's injuries currently being treated as unexplained.
