Appeal for information following suspected hit-and-run in Newcastle

Officers are appealing for witnesses to get in touch after a boy sustained head injuries following a suspected hit-and-run in Newcastle.

Just after 2.20pm yesterday (Sunday), police were informed via the ambulance service of a collision between an electrically assisted pedal cycle and a car on Binswood Avenue, at the junction with Sunnyway, in Blakelaw.

It was reported that a silver Peugeot 5008 car collided with the bike. The Peugeot – which had a 2012 year registration plate – then left the scene following the collision and was found abandoned a short time later on Colwyne Place.

The rider of the bike, a 15-year-old boy, sustained head injuries in the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Officers with Northumbria Police are investigating the incident and are now hoping to trace the driver of the Peugeot.

Anyone with information regarding the collision should send police a direct message on social media or use the live chat and report forms which are on the Force website.

For those unable to make contact via those ways, call 101.
