Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward as they investigate a report of attempted robbery in North Tyneside.

At 5.40am yesterday, (Monday) police received a report that a man was walking on a path that runs alongside the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate, leading from Station Road into Percy Main, when he was approached by a man he did not know.

The man then demanded that the victim – who is in his early 30s – hand over his belongings before putting his hands on his face.

The victim pushed the man away and the offender then left the scene.

No items were taken but the victim sustained a cut to his face in the incident which required treatment at hospital.

Officers have launched an investigation into the report and are appealing to anyone with information in relation to what happened to come forward.

The offender is described as a white man, in either his late 30s or early 40s, about 6ft tall with light stubble and brown eyes.

He was wearing a long black coat that went down to his knees.

Witnesses or anyone with information should send Northumbria Police a direct message on social media or use the live chat function or report forms on the Force website.

For those unable to contact the Force via those ways, call 101.
