A paedophile has been jailed for offences committed more than 30 years ago – thanks to the bravery of his survivors.
John Corby subjected three young victims to sexual offences in the Newcastle area.
After a report was made by one of his victims in November 2021, officers in Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding Department launched a full investigation.
In January 2022, Corby was interviewed and later charged with two counts of rape, two counts of indecent assault and one count of gross indecency.
He denied all offences.
Following an eight-week trial at Newcastle Crown Court in September, Corby was found guilty on all counts by a jury.
Corby, 66, of Hallow Drive, Throckley, Newcastle, appeared before the same court on Monday, November 18, and was sentenced to 18 years behind bars.
He was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.Â
 Leading the investigation, Detective Constable David Ostle, of Northumbria Police, said: “John Corby is a predator who took advantage of young vulnerable victims.
“His victims have shown immeasurable bravery and I would like to thank them for coming forward and showing such strength and courage in helping us to bring a dangerous offender to justice.”
Det Con Ostle added: “Protecting our communities and ensuring the most serious offenders like Corby are prosecuted are our top priorities as a Force.
“This result shows that regardless of the length of time that has passed, it’s never too late to seek justice.
“I would urge anyone who has been a victim, or wants to share information about an offender, to get in touch.
“We will listen to you, and we will support you.”
